Wednesday, February 19th, 5:30-7:30pm, Mission Bay. Entrepreneur's Club: Networks Matter: The Founding of Nano Precision Medical with Adam Mendelsohn, 2011 UCSF PhD in Bioengineering. Adam got his start by competing in the Berkeley Business Plan Competition<http://bplan.berkeley.edu/> in 2008. Several competitions later, he co-founded and became CEO of Nano Precision Medical, which has raised $3 million in Angel financing and has eight full-time employees. He will talk about the key role advisors have played and how his network at UCSF helped the company get off to a running start. Adam will speak about his journey transitioning from academia into entrepreneurship and provide tips for positioning a startup company to succeed in the face of practical challenges. Wednesday, February 26th, 5:30-7:30pm, Mission Bay. Speakers Series: Lilly Revolutionizes Funding Early Stage Life Science. Darren Carroll, Vice President Corporate Business Development, Eli Lilly<http://www.lilly.com/>, will talk about how Lilly is pioneering a new capital efficient model to develop therapeutics by partnering with venture capital firms and leveraging resources.  Rather than build complete companies around a single molecule, Lilly's VC partners set up virtual structures that can utilize Lilly development and avoid sizable overhead.  Darren will talk about this program as well as Lilly Ventures<http://www.lillyventures.com/>, the company's venture capital fund, which he oversees. Dan Schwartz, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSF and serial entrepreneur, will share his thoughts about fast product development, how to build and maintain teams and starting and funding a company. We have been invited to join FOUNDER.org's $100K<http://www.founder.org/home/the100k/2014-program/>, a global competition that includes Stanford, Berkeley and Wharton among its partner schools. Each of the top 10 finalists will receive $100K to help them create a high impact company and 50 semifinalists will get 12 months of mentoring and training. Mondays, April 14th- June 2nd, 5:30-7:30pm. Course: Financing New Ventures is an eight week survey of the financing landscape for life science/healthcare ventures. We will explore the range of options to get your venture funded ranging from SBIR grants to seed funding, angel funding, venture capital and alternative sources of capital. There will be a session on finance basics, valuation, term sheets and a review of the content for a business plan and investor pitch. Co-taught by Adjunct Professors Stephanie Marrus, Director of the Entrepreneurship Center and Naeem Zafar, UC Berkeley/UCSF, the course will include invited speakers from the business community in Silicon Valley. This is a non-credit course and is open to Berkeley, Stanford and life science businesses.
