12/18/07News: Chinese Biomedicine Club(CBC) at UCSF 摘自 加州大学论坛旧版 (Universities in California Bulletin Board System) game 2007-12-18 20:27 Dear ACSS members, dear friends, Do you feel the need of advice in career development, in how to survive and thrive in academia or industrial environments? Do you want to acquire more knowledge in Entrepreneurship? Do you want to seek the face-to-face opportunity to meet distinguished Professors, Inventors, Managers or Entrepreneur? Or do you just feel like to know and hang out with more people? We, the committee of ACSS, always bear the question of how to best serve our Chinese community at UCSF in our mind. Through the previous events organized by the committee, especially 5th ACSS biomedicine and biotechnology Symposium, we concluded that our members are eager to get together to get good advices from experts, exchange opinions with friends, and make new friends in the meeting. We believe that our members will be better off should they become better informed and better connected. To that end, we’d like to establish an interest group named temporarily Chinese Biomedicine Club (CBC) at UCSF. CBC is affiliated to Association of Chinese students and Scholars (ACSS) at UCSF. It will serve as an interactive platform to facilitate the connections among its members and to address their concerns. For the best functioning of the club, we have some following draft propositions: 1. The club will convene regularly(at least six activities per year), each time with a specific topic that is of common interest, such as talking career development with Experts, Biomed or biotech forum, job hunting, etc. We will invite distinguished or very experienced experts in each topic as speakers or be involved in interesting events with other organization. 2. Some of meetings including social party will be casual and salon-like to encourage members to communicate freely. 3. To get it serious, there will be a $10 charge for annual membership to partially cover the relevant cost of club activities. While the events will be free for the club members, non-members are always welcome but are subjected to higher charge for each event. 4. Members can vote to decide the topics of future gatherings and committee members. In addition, members are strongly encouraged to recommend and invite experts in specific area as our speakers. To join Chinese Biomedicine Club, just simply send your name, position, department, institution and contact way to ZHIYONG.YANG@UCSF.EDU or XIAODONG.ZHU@UCSF.EDU . You can become a member at any time and we also like to set up application form in our website in the future. This is a great opportunity to develop your career, promote professional interactions in the field of life sciences, and set up your networking in academia and industry around bay area. You are cordially invited to join this NEW biomedicine club! As always, your support, participation and comments are vital to the success of our mission to better serve you.
