致美国高校中国学生学者联谊会的倡议信

Dear All members of Association of Chinese Students and Scholars,

We write regarding the recent outrageous racist remarks (April 9) against the Chinese people by Jack Cafferty, a CNN commentator.

As you know, ACSS is non-profit and non-political organization; however, we must not ignore this kind of nasty and hatred remarks. We condemn strongly against Jack Cafferty for insulting us at no reason. We demand CNN take action to fire Jack Cafferty immediately.

We encourage every member of the ACSS to join us to oust Cafferty. There are two easier way to make it work.

1 Sign the petition by this link: http://www.petitiononline.com/cnncaff .So far there are more than 70,000 signatures collected for this issue.

2 File a compliant against Cafferty to FCC (Federal Communication Commission): http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgb/fcc475B.cfm .You can email or fax the formal complaint letter to this number: 1-866-418-0232 (Fax is much better than email).

This is a sample letter you may reference and please revise it as you wish before you send it out:

CNN commentator Jack Cafferty made the following comments, which are extremely insulting to American Chinese as well as all of the Chinese around the world:

Jack Cafferty "Well, I don't know if China is any different, but our relationship with China is certainly different. We're in hawk to the Chinese up to our eyeballs because of the war in Iraq, for one thing. They're holding hundreds of billions of dollars worth of our paper. We also are running hundred of billions of dollars worth of trade deficits with them, as we continue to import their junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food and export, you know, jobs to places where you can pay workers a dollar a month to turn out the stuff that we're buying from Wal-Mart. So I think our relationship with China has certainly changed. I think they're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years."

These comments have induced greatest anger of all of the Chinese I have known. The comments suggest that Mr. Cafferty is full of hatred against Chinese, and he does not appear to hold any basic moral and professional standards. I believe that without clear punishments against his behaviors, this incident would severely impair our trust to the integrity of CNN and American Media as a whole.

Reporters and journalists are supposed to maintain unbiased and neutral reporting. I am highly disappointed at CNN and especially Jack Cafferty's racist remarks. I demand CNN take action to fire Jack Cafferty. I would reserve my right to take further actions on this matter.

Your signature,

All in all, doing something is much better doing nothing. Please ask your family, your friends and your relatives to protect and support our Chinese Community.

Best regards,

Association of Chinese Students and Scholars (ACSS) at UCSF
